What do our wishes look like?

Usha’s wish was to visit the Mooloolaba beach and spend time with her family

Denis’s wish was to sit around the bonfire with family and friends

Kai’s wish was to watch the Brisbane Bullets

Every wish is unique, and eligibility is carefully considered to ensure we can provide a safe and compassionate experience for each patient.

Am I eligible for a wish?

Ambulance Wish Queensland are able to help you, someone you care about or you care for, based on the following criteria:

Support

The wish recipient must be a current patient of one of our partner specialist palliative care services

Location

The Ambulance Wish request location must be within a 150km radius of an AWQ Hub

Diagnosis

The wish recipient must have a terminal diagnosis of a life-limiting condition and be expected to live less than 12 months

Mobility

The wish recipient must require considerable assistance with mobility (Australia-modified Karnofsky Performance Status of 50 or below) and/or frequent personal care

Consent

The wish recipient must be able to consent to the Ambulance Wish

Goals of Care

Clear goals of care must be in place

Wish Request

The wish must be low in complexity and risk

Residence

The wish recipient can reside at a home, hospice, hospital or care facility within a 150km radius of an AWQ hub

We’ll work closely with you, your family and healthcare professionals to discuss your circumstances and explore how we may be able to help make a special wish possible. If you would like to organise a wish with Ambulance Wish Queensland, and meet our eligibility criteria, chat to your palliative care service to complete a Wish Request form.
