Support
The wish recipient must be a current patient of one of our partner specialist palliative care services
Supporting First Nations peoples to reconnect with Country, culture, family and community through compassionate end-of-life care.

Every Return to Country journey is guided by the wishes of the patient, their loved ones and healthcare team. Ambulance Wish Queensland works alongside families, health professionals and community partners to coordinate safe, compassionate transport, ensuring each journey is planned with care, dignity and respect for cultural needs and individual circumstances.
For Return to Country wishes and the more complex wishes—such as those requiring flights, multiple transport modes, or cross-border coordination—we will work with external providers to assist in dignified journeys home.
Ambulance Wish Queensland will help make these meaningful journeys possible, supporting patients to reconnect with Country, family, community and places of cultural significance. We understand that no two journeys are the same, and we are committed to providing personalised support that honours each person’s story and wishes.
For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Country represents identity, family, culture, spirituality and belonging. The opportunity to return to Country can provide comfort, strengthen connections and create meaningful moments with loved ones during the final stages of life.
It’s about honouring culture, respecting personal wishes and recognising the importance of connection at the end of life. These journeys can bring comfort to patients, families and communities, leaving lasting memories and reinforcing the compassionate, person-centred care that Ambulance Wish Queensland strives to provide.

If you would like to discuss a Return to Country journey or find out whether a patient may be eligible, our team is here to help. We work closely with healthcare professionals, patients, families and community partners to understand each person’s wishes and provide guidance throughout the referral process.
